Friendly staff, overpriced room.

The hotel itself was fine, clean and comfortable. However, for the price, I would’ve rather have gone with a different hotel. Price of the hotel was what I consider premium and higher end. The room itself didn’t feel that way. I’ve stayed at other hotels for a third of the price with a much higher end feeling. I would probably not stay there again simply because the price did not match the room.

Not what it used to be….

I stay here 4-5 times a year. This time I was put in an old room that was not renovated. They told us it was because we used hotels.com, a third party, to book. This has never happened in the previous 7 years! Toilet was clogged before we even used it. Bathtub was small and shower was slow. It was a handicapped room and amenities were good at best. The front desk had no cash so I couldn’t tip valet until end of stay. Overall, not sure I will stay here again which is sad because I used to love this hotel.

A real bust

The worst highly rated hotel I have ever stayed at. No one at the front desk; no one answered calls from the room ever; restaurant closed when it was advertised as open; No room cleaning although they said it was cleaned.nNot enough room here to detail all the problems. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Checking in Everything g else was a disaster Asked for late checkout - wanted to charge $50 Told me a could self park - charged me $46 Added a $35 fee didn’t know about Closed hotel restaurant at noon on Sunday - who does that in a hotel Offered $15 credit when I checked in but forgot to put in on the bill - I asked and it seemed to be an inconvenience to give me a new bill

A model of what's wrong with hotels today

The Kimpton Palomar lives off its proximity to the UCLA campus. The room was fine - clean, reasonable size, and with an OK view - but it's wildly over-priced for what it offers, and the hotel plays a dishonest game with its customers by turning some of the cost of the room into a mandatory "amenities charge" (you pay extra because there is a pool, health club, and minimal Lyft service, whether you use those things or not!) to make it look less expensive than it really is. Everywhere you look, also, there's a new charge. Those nice biscotti and madeleine's in a bowl at the check-in desk? They're not free - they're $2.50 plus tax. You want a sad old apple or banana from the little stand? That'll be another $3 each. A box of cereal? $4.50 - with no milk. If the hotel business was once about giving guests at least the appearance of warmth and hospitality, this hotel is instead about figuring out how many different ways it can soak its guests. In addition to all this, things are in disrepair. The fridge in our room was broken, so they brought an additional one on the first night, saying that the broken one would be taken out or fixed the next day - but it never was. The door to the pool looked in bad shape, and I got a severe electric shock when I tried to open it (when I reported that to the front desk, one of the staff told me that the same thing had happened to him). Bottom line: find somewhere else to stay unless proximity to UCLA is your number one concern.
