This is not a fancy hotel or even a fancy Best Western: it is a refurbished BW about half a mile from downtown and four long blocks from the cafés and restaurants in Midtown Houston. That said, if you have business in downtown or you are visiting someone in Midtown or Downtown, this is the hotel for you. This is a basic BW hotel. What makes it great is the condition of the rooms and the staff. The rooms are big and very clean. They are also virtually soundproof. I have stayed there a total of eight nights in the past eight months and never heard anyone in the hallway or in the adjacent rooms. The bathrooms are well-stocked: toothpaste, shampoo etc. The rooms have lots of lights, reading lights, etc. There is a separate section with a Keurig coffeemaker, microwave, small refrigerator. The staff also leaves a couple mini packages of Pepperidge Farms cookies each day -- a nice touch after 12 hours grinding away on a deal. The gym is tiny but functional: one elliptical with bluetooth, two treadmills, a full stack of weights, ball, towels, bottles of water. I had a pretty good workout four days in a row. The front desk is lovely and they provide free transportation within a two mile radius Monday until 10am Saturday. The tiny swimming pool, just off the lobby, is more ornamental than anything, but if you insist on getting your rays, there are chaises longue and a small jacuzzi poolside. Breakfast is standard: hot food, cold food, and 24/7 coffee and tea.

We were very happy with this hotel. The staff was all very friendly from arrival to departure. One of the best free breakfasts I have had at a hotel. The location is close enough to everything but not right in the center of all the traffic congestion! It was perfect for our activities! Great amenities in the room, very clean, a/c worked great! The only reason I didn't give it all excellent ratings is the elevator was a little iffy. It made a lot of creaky noises and was a bit slow. We never got stuck or anything but apparently they were having trouble with the lights in it. Our first night there the lighting was good in it. By the second night we got in at one point and it was really dim because they put stick up lights on the walls. By the end of the night when we got in it was down to one stick up light that was barely lit. It made for a very creepy elevator ride that I would think is a real safety hazard. I'm sure this was a temporary problem that will be fixed so I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel itself was wonderful. Great room. Spacious. Comfy beds. Nice towels. Booked through 3rd party site and called to ensure there was a shuttle to Minute Maid stadium. They assured us there was; however, that was NOT the case. Shuttle only runs on weekdays. The area is almost scary, but since the hotel seems secure and the room is great, you pretty much forget that part. Full morning breakfast with eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, waffles, biscuits & gravy, bagels, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, juice, coffee. You can't go wrong with the choices. And it was clean. Oh, and parking is FREE. All the rest of the downtown hotels charge between $34 & $50 for valet parking. So for the price we paid for the room, adding the value of a full hot breakfast, and free parking - it was an AWESOME deal.

Two men working the front desk were rude and impatient and unhelpful, and I would hesitate to stay at the hotel again or recommend it because of them. This is a shame because the ladies I interacted with at the front desk were always friendly and helpful, and the same was true of the woman in charge of the kitchen area and any maids we encountered. Rooms were spacious and clean, and the hotel generally met our group's needs well at a good price, so it's too bad these other staff members did not have the training or tolerance for helping a customer when there was a problem with a complicated group reservation, or when one member in the group asked to change rooms after discovering that having a room off the balcony overlooking the lobby meant the lobby television would be loudly blaring noise into the room late into the evening.

Staff were all friendly, very accommodating and helpful. They arranged our ride to the airport because we were leaving the hotel at 0530 to catch our flight at 0730 at the airport. I like their continental breakfast, they're open at 0600, early enough to eat breakfast before we headed to our conference at the convention center. Their happy hour was really good, different food everyday from 5 - 7 pm. There's even a just baked cookies when we get to the hotel after our classes. Overall experience was great during our stay at Best Western. We didn't get to use the little swimming pool, we just didn't have time. The drivers of the shuttle, John and Noe ( I don't know if that's how his name is spelled ) were always ready to pick us up when we needed them. They were also very friendly, happy go lucky gentlemen. I would use Best Western again. Their services were excellent. My friends and I were very happy and very satisfied with our stay at Best Western.
