My plan was to stay in or near Basel, Switzerland, to do some sightseeing. I also wanted to be right there. I wanted to take some tours of notable places, events, and history. Imagine my surprise when I got to Carathotel. It is NOT in an area suitable for Swiss sightseeing. In fact, the area is most decidedly industrial. Factories, truck stops, Diesel fueling for business are normal in Weil am Rhein. I chatted with the Hotels.com representative, and explained the unsuitability of this hotel for a disabled senior citizen traveling alone. She called the hotel and begged them to cancel my prepaid reservation without penalties. No! No! No! They were not nice about it at all. The front desk staff said that if I looked on a map, Weil am Rhein is clearly not in Switzerland, and I should have known better. The hotel is nice for business travelers or tourists with a car. Otherwise, find other accommodations.

Never knew Germany had cockroaches until now. Killed 5 within the first ten minutes.

Overnight stay passing through for onward next day journey.

This hotel has everything you need, the reception team were welcoming and friendly...also helpful and are happy to assist in any way. The beds are comfortable and the rooms clean. The restaurant had plenty to choose from and great value. The breakfast was good. Only thing to keep in mind if your using public transport is that the nearest tram is 15min walk....there is a bus during non holiday times out front of hotel..... unfortunately it was not running when we stayed. Highly recommended this hotel for future travelers.

Easily accessible. Excellent breakfast. Friendly reception staff. Hotel is out dated in terms of facilities and little run down. My room was not cleaned though I asked the cleaning staff on the floor verbslly as no tag available in the room to fix on the door knob ! I asked for slippers on arrival but it was not available at the reception and I didn't get till next day morning. No safe box at the room.

Convenient for the airport and with large rooms, the hotel's one draw back was the decor which seems in need of an update. Breakfast was adequate if a little confused eg we never did find where the sugar was! However, I would have no hesitation in staying here again - it was excellent value for money.

Good hotel, but don't pay ahead of time. Pay at the hotel otherwise they will charge you again.
