Beautiful location around 1 hour from Takayama in the mountains. Staff are incredibly helpful and attentive. Would stay again.

Fabulous place, we love it. Onsen is very nice with various choice to select from public to private. You have to try the private outdoor one, it is fantastic.

Lovely relaxing hotel

The hotel was lovely and I would really recommend it. We had a suite. It was very clean and comfortable. The beds were traditional style ie very low to the ground. I personally found the mattress quite hard, but I’ve found that everywhere I’ve stayed so far. My husband liked it! The onsen in the bathroom was one of the best things about the room. The hotel also had public and private baths inside and outside. You have to reserve the private baths, but we had no difficulty doing so. The outside private bath was beautifully warm. The hotel also provides kimonos and traditional work style top and bottoms (can’t remember the name) to wear whilst at the hotel. You also have to wear their slippers. However they catered mainly for shorter people. My husband, probably a UK medium had to have extra large and the slippers were too small. The staff were all very polite and spoke some English. We ate at the restaurant for dinner one night and it is definitely worth doing (if you like Japanese food). A variety of different courses. The only improvement I can think of is if we could have been given a bit more info on arrival about what we needed to do about booking the baths, what we should wear in them etc. But we figured it out okay in the end. The hotel is close to the bus station so easy walk. They also had a shuttle bus that could drive you up to the bus station. If you did want to eat somewhere other than the hotel there were quite a few options close by.

Nice hotel

The staff in this hotel are very nice. The room is very clean and comfortable. It is happy that there is massage chair in the room as well.

A very nice onsen hotel with extremely helpful and friendly staff. However we found it overpriced comparing to other onsen hotels with similar facilities. We stayed in the Japanese style room with private onsen bath tub. Very nice room but the layout is not as pleasant as other onsen hotels. Overall a very nice hotel but we'd stay in other onsen hotels as there are many other choices with the price we paid.

Re charging the Nippon way

This is a well organised, well run onsen that will allow you to tick off your bucket list wish of visiting a traditional onsen; if it isn't on your list it should be. Recommend paying extra for an onsen in your suite although you cant beat the outdoor private onsen for ambience. The set dinner was a culniary delight ...and frankly not much other options in Hirayu if you don't eat in. The only caution is that you'll over indulge in the artistery bthat goes on in the food presentation. Highly recommended.
