I paid a bargain price, got what I paid for. The concierge was very nice and polite, helped me get situated with ease. The room was just big enough to fit a full bed - small nightstand and mini tv mounted on the wall. The floors were a bit dirty, wouldn't recommend being barefoot. Bathrooms are at the end of the hall, so make sure to bring your own towel and slippers. Blinds were pretty damaged, but I still had a view through the gate on my window. If you're looking for somewhere super affordable in downtown Manhattan, this place is perfect. Just make sure you come prepared with pyjamas, towels, shoes, and maybe some wet wipes.

Bed Bugs Swarm in the Night!! World's Worst Hotel
I have stayed in hundreds of budget hotels, hostels, tents, and huts around the globe for three years straight and I can safely say these are the grimiest, most bug-infested four walls on planet earth. I wish I could stand outside and warn you never to enter lest your body lay feast to what is hiding under the mattress. There are certain things you expect from budget accommodations like a room the size of a closet (fine) or bathrooms not being cleaned (fine, I guess), a poor mattress, poor security, loud roommates (fine, fine, fine). But this place is also diseased and will eat you alive. The walls are stained, the sheets are stained, the mattress is stained, there is no ceiling, repeat: there is no ceiling, the doors are broken, the showers are broken, there is no toilet paper, there are bugs under the mattress, there are bugs in the cracks of the walls, there will be bugs sucking your blood through the night until you wake up scratching some 30+ bites on your body. Maybe you have a rash now, maybe fleas. I even captured a bed bug and showed it to the front desk attendant after he told me they were mosquito bites. He was only alarmed that I was holding it near him. When I asked about the hotel manager he said they never come to the hotel and only call in... The cost of getting out of there last-minute, cleaning everything, and recuperating is far more expensive than the cost of the next less horrible hotel. Please do not stay here.

Decent location and afforadable.
The upshot is that it's located right in Chinatown and round the corner from Little Italy, and the Bowery JZ train line is just across the street. The downside is that your room is just a bed with a door. So be prepared to share toilets and showers. I only stayed one night and wanted to save on expenses. This was something I could tolerate. But if you're looking for more personal space and a place to relax and unwind then I suggest a more upscale hotel.

Survivable, but not for the faint of heart.
Executive Summary: Survivable experience, but somewhat overpriced at the $57 rate. Do come prepared with headphones/earplugs and some sort of entertainment (e.g., tablet). Wifi does work. Detail: I suppose I should have known what I was getting into with a rate of $57 for a single room, but I was deceived by the pictures displayed for that room type on the Hotels.com site. It was small, as expected (approx. 9X5, as measured with my headphones cord), but the pictures on the website showed a freshly painted room with a television. There was no television, which was a good thing due to the lack of neighbor sound abatement. The main problem with this place is that the overhead air vents are not ducted, but simply allow air flow via the overhead air space. As a result, I could not only hear my neighbors snoring, but also unzipping luggage, talking on phones, breathing, etc. Headphones allowed me to sleep. I also felt more comfortable because I had brought a micro-fiber sleep sack that I had treated with permethrin earlier. Last thing: Do know the street address, as from street level there's no way to identify the entrance to the "hotel" except for the street number. One of my pictures is of the "main entrance".

Cheap, cheerful & clean
It's cheap & very basic - my room was tiny - but clean, friendly & well-run. Hot water dispenser in the lobby so you can save even more money making your own hot drinks & pot noodle meals! Wifi worked fine. In a great area close to SoHo, Chinatown, Little Italy and new village area east of Bowery below Houston St. Far from 'grand' but a decent option if you are broke.
