Incredible views from a privileged perch

Stayed here for two nights and very much enjoyed the incredible view from our room with a balcony overlooking the Douro River. Staff is very helpful and friendly and the breakfast buffet was generous with very good freshly squeezed orange juice. The restaurant serves adequate, though uninspiring food for lunch and dinner. The only downside to staying here is that there are few options to eat close to the hotel other than a lovely little cafe at the other end of the dock from the hotel (just walking distance) that has very nice staff, and nice snacks, sandwiches and wine.

Hotel right on the Douro river - spectacular views

The Hotel Porto Antigo is in a breathtaking setting right on the Douro River. The roads that lead there are narrow, windy and at times steep but well worth the trip. The dinner we had at their restaurant was slso excellent.

The location of the hotel on the river is amazing. Took a while to get to, however the views of the Douro Valley are beautiful. Lots of wineries nearby to sample, and if one likes to bicycle challenging winding roads. Opportunity to sit back and relax in the hot sun around the pool.

Very nice hotel. Clean spacious room. Good amenities. Excellent bar and restaurant. Friendly helpful staff. Location is stunning and very tranquil.

Fantastic location on Douro River

Fantastic location with great view on to the Douro River. Also recommendable is their restaurant sitting on a terrace next to the river. We had some problems at checkin because our booking was not on their system, the issue was resolved after delivering proof of the booking.

Driving to this hotel from Porto is a ‘challenge’ as the roads are not good but there is a railway station 5mins. by car from the hotel.......Mosteiro....so you don’t need a car. Porto is about 1.30hr away. Regua 30mins Pinhao 1hr. Mostly you travel along the side of the lake , so the views are lovely. Ithe hotel is very good value for money. There are no restaurants nearby but the meals in the hotel are good.

Excellent small hotel in great location

A relatively small hotel on a promontory between the Douro valley and a tributary valley.. Surrounded by hills, vineyards and small villages lodged on the very steep slopes. Porto Antigo is a very small hamlet,the hotel being the main economic activity. Thoroughly enjoyed our six day stay at the hotel following a week on a Douro river cruise. Our room had a fantastic view and veranda overlooking the lake formed by the dammed Douro river. Hotel was very clean & comfortable, buffet breakfasts were extremely good, fresh fruit & croissants, various cold meats / cheeses etc., help yourself to as much as you want. Restaurant for evening meals had a good choice of locally inspired dishes as well as good choice of local wines. Hotel gets much busier at the weekend when the locals take advantage of the small marina facilities for various water sports eg jet skis, water skiing, power boating etc. Small swimming pool between front of hotel and lake front clean and handy - given the foregoing much busier at weekend. Staff very friendly & extremely helpful with nothing too much trouble. We were looking for a quiet, relaxing few days in a picturesque lakeside location & that is exactly what we got. Would I book again - definitely.
