Never judge a book by it's cover

My stay at University Inn was absolutely wonderful. To be perfectly honest, I try to stay away from places that aren't popular "name brand" hotels/motels because usually they're more run down and sketchy, but I chose this place because literally all but 3 hotels in Phoenix/Tempe in my price range were fully booked. This one got the best reviews so I chose it. BOY AM I HAPPY I DID!! As my title says, never judge a book by it's cover. From the outside, University Inn looks like your average, run-of-the-mill dated motel. Once you walk into one of their rooms, you realize it's not. The other reviews are right. The rooms are modern, quite swanky looking. The bathroom was beautiful, the wall paint design was modern, large TV, great variety of cable channels. The woman who checked me in (sorry I either forgot or forgot to get your name) was so cheerful and nice. The only problem I had was the parking. The lot is tiny, and there are very few spaces. I was lucky to find one but I almost rear-ended 2 cars trying to park into it. The spaces are small, leaving barely any room between the cars. Other than the parking, the whole experience was great. If I'm ever in Tempe again, I'll be staying here.

Overall good

The room we had was a little noisy at it was at the front, roadside. Also,the shutters let in quite a bit of light. However. It was clean and friendly helpful,service. Fun quirky decor. The corners of the bed were sharp - ouch!

Staff was incredible. Renovations looked great in photos, not so great irl.. Super convenient to downtown Tempe, oh, and lots of hot water.

Good - It was walking distance to the venue we were attending that evening. The staff was very good and helpful. Bad - Things that were wrong here had nothing to do with the staff. Bathroom was awful. Very poorly designed. No TP holder, poor lighting, no towel hooks, oversized sink with no vanity space for hygiene items, fan not separate from light switch so every time the light is turned on the fan came on. VERY loud and very annoying. No mirror in main room. Since bathroom had dim lighting I had to put makeup on in main room. Good thing I brought a small mirror. We won’t be going back.

It was very conveniently located to restaurants and shops, as well as the ASU Campus. Picking up my son, an ASU student was a breeze. Morning walks to get breakfast was a highlight of our trip.
