I stayed on my own in a self-contained room (double bed and a double bunk) so my "excellent" rating should be viewed in that light. The price was very reasonable compared with local hotels, it is very convenient for the centre of Fremantle and, of course has lots of character. I'd definitely go there again.

It has a good community atmosphere worki g together in the kitchen keeping it clean for everyone, everyone seemed to get on from all walks of life and ages, yes value for money when on a budget.

This was the cleanest and user-friendliest hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The location is perfect if you want to be close to everything but bot right I. The middle of it. The hostel is part of the old prison and most of the rooms were actual jail cells. The majority of the prison is attached with tours. Do the nighttime torchlight tour - you won’t be disappointed. Perth is easy to get to by train and the ferry to Rottnest is just a short walk away. I’ve been staying in hostels for years and this has been my favorite.

I liked the easy check in and clean rooms and free breakfast

We stayed in another newer part of the hostel where we had a private bathroom which is quite clean and is better than expected. If you want to live in a cell, you have to share a bathroom. The breakfast is simple with cereal and toast but you can buy your own and cook by yourself.

Friendly check-in, comfortable bed, i got a good night's sleep on a Friday night so any partying is obviously confined to the common areas. It definitely feels like a prison and a prison cell, and when i toured the main prison the next day i could see into the hostel garden. Clean bedding but when i had to strip the bed (as required) there were stains on the mattress cover and pillow. There also didn't seem to be many showers/toilets, only one for the cell block and only two/three in the main block/common area. I stayed for one night only so this wasn't a problem but might be an inconvenience for longer stays. Overall a great location and fun experience.
