We loved Rancho de Lelo Ecolodge - a true family-owned and run business. The entire stay felt like we were part of a home. We had our own little cabin with a balcony looking out to the forest. The sunsets at nearby overlooks were spectacular and the stars are incredible at night. This was our favorite stay during our entire Costa Rica trip, we're already planning to go back!

Pro: Good food, good and warm climate (better than Monteverde), comfortable bed. Cons: No wifi in room, pay cash only, not safe room ( we came back one afternoon and our door was wide open, but not to make the room; owner feel they are entitled to enter anytime at their convenience), no safe, loud in the morning, you cannot sleep after 7:00 am because of machinery noise, no view from balcony because of giant bush. This is rustic family place. (So expect ants and other creatures in your cabin; that’s life in a ranch). We stayed 3 nights.

"Football is Life". It gave my family great joy in seeing Grandpa play with his 2 ish granddaughter on the small soccer field next to the restaurant. Grandpa also created a little sports car out of a milk crate and "drove" his granddaughter around with pure delight in her eyes. This is a small Eco farm, multi generationally run that consists of the farm, the restaurant, and 4 cottages. Each day they ask if you will be eating breakfast (4 different options) as well as dinner; which for dinner and breakfast - they include beverages inclusive of beer and home made fruit drinks of many kinds as well as fresh farm options for $15.00 US. (Breakfast is free though). I would recommend being kind and giving the hosts an idea what time you wish to eat breakfast in advance. The cabins were clean and secluded. The food was good however the head on beautifully cooked farm raised Tillapia freaked out my college age daughter, making for a few good laughs. We messed up and forgot to inform them we weren't going to eat dinner one night, so just remember to do what we failed to consider. My bad! It is a great little working farm with a wonderful caring family managing it all. The only negative might be it's a good 20 minutes away from Monteverde proper and not generally a location in which the Moneteverde shuttle busses will come get you. You need your own vehicle here. Bottom line is we really enjoyed staying here and hope the best for the owners!

It is very clean and well maintained lodge. Breakfast was so delicious. No WiFi in the room. Highly recommend to have a car with 4 wheel drive. It is about 25 minutes from the lodge to Santa Elena (shops and Restaurants), and you have to drive a little steep uphill road. Once we oriented the area, we felt the distance to the town was pretty close. In order to get hot water for shower, turn the knob to left to start water and then bring it back to right. The owner speaks limited English, so it is helpful if you can speak some Spanish.

Excellent service! Friendly family owns the ranch! Very attentive! Highly recommended! Definitely rent a 4x4 if staying there.

Lelo's place was fantasic. Wonderful food and fresh juices, we at from the farm- tilapia, eggs, and cafe. The cabins are really nice and wifi is accessible from the common eating space. They can also do laundry for a small fee.

Agrotourisme de belle qualité et authentique

On recommande! Après une route magnifique et un peu sport depuis Sta Elena, on a eu un super accueil par la famille qui possède cette belle ferme en pleine région du Monteverde. Les bungalows sont confortables et peu nombreux. La restauration est de qualité et constituée de produits de la ferme, y compris le poisson. 15$/p. pour le dîner. Petit déjeuner compris, essayez les jus frais, ils sont top. On aurait aimé qu’il y ait qq tables dehors et/ou une lumière plus douce dans le restaurant.

The staff was very friendly however Communication in English was hard. The accommodations were quite rustic but clean. If you were looking to get away from it all this is the place.

worth the drive

Worth the drive! Truly enjoyed this little gem! It’s in San Luis, about 20 minutes drive from the busy noisy crowded Santa Elena, we had a car therefore distance didn’t matter. Immaculate new individual tree house cabins! Family run farm and ecolodges, our room had a large bed, balcony and hot shower. Good lighting and a/c! The young lady running it was fantastic, perfect English and accommodating. Property is beautiful, small swimming pool, and gorgeous garden and a soccer field. Was probably the best dinner we had in CR! Had the tilapia, cooked to perfection and beautiful presentation. Wifi was not available in the room, but worked well at the restaurant/bar.
