Wanted to love it.

Really wanted to love it. -We were aware there was no on site parking. The staff recommended a lot that was $36 a day but there is a MBTA lot with overnight parking close by that is patrolled 24 hrs a day and it actually ended up being only $17 for the 3 days we were there. -We were informed upon check in that the elevator was not working and therefore the rooftop restaurant would also be closed. The elevator was down for 2/3 days we stayed. My initial thought was “a little exercise never hurt” however, when we were out shopping and sight seeing all day, a quick trip to the room was less than convenient when we were up on the 3rd floor. We had to carry all of our luggage, shopping bags etc up and down and were not given so much as a free drink or appetizer for the inconvenience. -There was a cart of visibly soiled laundry parked right outside our door when we checked in which stayed there until I asked that it be moved. -Finally, the elevator was fixed. We decided to check out the rooftop restaurant. We ordered an appetizer. “Mexican street corn dip”, a mocktail and a seltzer. The “dip” was actually a cold, chunky mixture of beans, corn and onions in cream served with stale chips. We barely touched it but it stayed on the bill. The mocktail was daiquiri mix and ice and it was $8. Just glad we didn’t figure on having dinner there. -Great location. The room itself was cute but needs some attention. Carpet was sticky and there was peeling paint.

Great location

Overall, the Hotel Salem is nice. The location is perfect if you want to be in the heart of Essex St. I took the ferry from Boston and walked a little less than a mile to the hotel. Parking is not convenient to the Hotel Salem so if that is an issue, try somewhere else. I took the commuter train back to Boston which was about 4 blocks away. Super easy. I had the micro suite room. It was adorable. Perfect for 1 or 2 people. I loved the hydration station on the floor and the roof top restaurant. Like I said before, the location was perfect. All the shops and food are right outside your door. I would definitely try Reds Sandwich shop for breakfast and the Bewitched Tour is by far the best if you like waking tours. Overall a great little spot. Could have been cleaner, but a little dirt never hurt. I'd stay there again.

ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING ACCOMMODATIONS OR ASSISTANCE

The hotel is really nice, nice people work there, amazing location, clever design of rooms. The issues were that 1) PARKING: not only do they have no lot, and not only do they have no parking spot to unload, there is NO place to unload your bags anywhere near the hotel, and the nearest pay to park is a 5 minute walk across cobblestone and brick walkways, AND... the lot is full during the day because it is half closed due to construction. AND, the people who work there have no idea where the parking lots are, how to get to them. AND... in the booking materials it states that if you have a disability that requires accessible options, to contact them and they can assist with accommodations. This was false. I asked for accommodations due to a disability (that i was literally being seen by specialists for in Boston the next day), and the person at the desk gave me zero options, zero help, and essentially shrugged his shoulders. But did tell me that he could not suggest that I pull my car onto the pedestrian walkway. 2) water pressure in showers is absolutely insufficient to wash shampoo out of long/thick hair. But if you are looking for a pretty shower with soft rainfall shower head, this is it.

Heart of Salem

I enjoyed staying in the heart of Salem. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was nice and helpful. The rooftop was amazing. The only drawback was paying for parking. I wish I knew there was no on-site parking. Otherwise . A lovely hotel!

Cute hotel in the heart of Salem

Vety cute hotel in the heart of Salem. Lots of shops, museums, bars and restaurants in walking distance. Joe and Tim were so friendly and helpful. Gave great recommendations. The rooms are pretty tiny. Very cute though. But bed is against the wall so have to climb over your partner to get to the bathroom. Bed was comfy though. Id stay here again. There is no on site parking so you do habe to walk with luggage so be prepared.

Pretty Good

Overall, pretty good. Friendly service, nice decor, good rooftop bar, great location, and good sized room. The down sides: the last night, there was no running hot water, which made taking a shower hell; and the room’s barn-style doors were annoying and left zero privacy.

The room was simple but everything we needed. The area is awesome. The parking nearby is literally nonexistent - fair warning. The toilet paper disintegrated instantly which is not ideal. But other than that, great stay.

Great location, walking distance to museums and restaurants. Staff was friendly. Rooftop bar/restaurant is a must! Room was clean and just what we expected. I read other reviews that you can hear the commotion of the hall way and that was true, but didn’t bother us.
